“The contrast could not be greater when Ana Parejo Belando puts down her alto saxophone to continue shining as a soprano. In the blink of an eye, the audience is transported to the 15th century, at the height of the Renaissance, with the song ‘Ay triste que vengo’ by Juan de la Encina (1468-1529), which the artist performs with a bell-like sound.

With a song from the Middle Ages, ‘El baxel està en la playa’, by an unknown composer, set to music by Gabriel Bataille (1575-1630), the singer and her companions definitely put the audience in their pocket. It is proof that music has no expiry date, especially when, as in this song, it is about love”.

PART OF THE REVIEW BY CHRISTINA BURGHAGEN FOR THE MAGAZINE “BERNER OBERLÄNDER” OF THE CONCERT PERFORMED TOGETHER WITH THE QUATUOR AMAPOLA AT THE SWISS CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL, FRUTIGEN ON SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2023

“Parejo performed Glazunov’s Chant du Menestrel, original for cello and orchestra, arranged for saxophone and piano by the same winner, and Debussy’s Rhapsody for saxophone and orchestra, adapted for saxophone and piano. The first is a delightful, sad work and cinematic, perfect for a cloudy and dark day like Tuesday, the second is fast-paced, full of energy and contrasts. The saxophonist showed great mastery of the instrument when adapting the volumes and the sound of the piano with an excellent phrasing . “

PART OF THE PAU REQUENA REVIEW FOR THE “NÚVOL” MAGAZINE OF THE CONCERT HELD IN SALA 4 OF L’AUDITORI, BARCELONA, ON OCTOBER 20, 2020.

“Parejo had her own opportunity to shine later on, delivering an enthralling lengthy solo, full of fluttering, that culminated in an incredible sequence played into a bowl of water, producing a delicious and weirdly poignant sequence of sonically inscrutable bubbles.”
